The General Options-Configuration window has two configuration areas:

Configuration
There are two configuration options:
SNMP/TFTP Retries - Defines the number of times that the device will try to reach the server
SNMP/TFTP Timeout - Defines the number of seconds the device will waits for a response from the server before the request is timed out
For example, if 3 is entered in the SNMP/TFTP Retries field and 1 in the SNMP/TFTP Timeout field, the device sends a request and waits for one second. If there is no response from the server after one second, the device tries again, waiting for two seconds. The third try will last up to four seconds.
This doubling technique provides servers with more opportunities to respond to requests. NMS in traffic-heavy networks should wait longer before timing out requests (i.e. make the SNMP/TFTP Timeout value large).
